Winter climbing & mountaineering: Lake District conditions update

There’s definitely been a fair bit of fresh snow up high over the last 24 hours. It had consolidated fairly well too, but has since stated to thaw again! There is still a fair bit left though and the upper reaches of Blencathra and the edges of Helvellyn are still very wintery.

Our contacts up in Scotland have also reported a LOT of new snow over the last 24 hours on higher ground, with more forecast (which explains the ‘High’ avalanche forecast for today and tomorrow).

A pretty wild weekend coming, but hopefully things will calm down over Xmas and we’ll get another nice cold snap in time for everybody’s Xmas hols!
