Winter climbing & mountaineering: Number Two Gully, Ben Nevis

We were up onto the Ben today, checking out the extent of the ‘uber thaw’. I’ve seen worse, but it’s going to take a lot more snow before things get back to normal.

Number Two Gully was a pleasant, if busy, way to the top though – the neve from Coire na Ciste upwards is bomb hard at the moment and all the approach slopes and easy gullys look to be complete and in excellent condition. It snowed a bit today and the freezing level stayed around the height of the CIC Hut. It needs a lot more, but there’s still excellent winter climbing & mountaineering to be had. The sun even made an appearance on the walk off.
