Guided 3 Peak Challenge with The North Face #2!

On Sunday, Lakeland Ascents supported Highpoint¬†with a massive corporate guided walk – the second round of The North Face’s epic 3 Peak Challenge. This time it was the turn of the Belgians who were just as keen, strong and fit as the Dutch from last week!

We guided over 80 members of the Belgian outdoor chain A S Adventure (part of the Cotswolds group) up Helvellyn in the afternoon and then Bowfell and Esk Pike at night.

The Helvellyn leg felt very similar to last week! Definite Groundhog Day, with a stream of orange North Face jackets wandering up the path from Thirlmere in driving rain and poor visibility! Our team did well and were up and down in about 3 hours. The highlight of the leg has to be coming across three North Face girls, dressed in pink spandex and tutus, ringing cowbells and cheering a few hundred meters before reaching the finish! Not something I see often on the fells, unfortunately!

The evening session started at 7pm in an epic hailstorm and I have to say the thought of what conditions would be like on the summit of Bowfell did not sit well! The hail fortunately stopped however, but there was a good 2″ of snow on Bowfell by the time we got there, with verglas covered rock underfoot. Nevertheless, we bagged the summit and were back down in Great Langdale for 2am for the teams to travel to Wales for their third and final summit – Snowdon.

Well done to all involved and cheers to Highpoint for getting us involved.
