Multi-activity day: Abseiling at Hodge & in the gorge at Church Beck

Today we ran a multi-activity day for a group of 7 lads from Bradford who were in the Lakes celebrating the end of Ramadan, Eid. We met at Hodge Close quarry, an amazing spot near Coniston with some great abseil lines into an impressive old slate quarry complete with an azure pool, big rock caverns and incredible rock architecture.

All 7 of the lads had a good few goes on the main abseil and enjoyed the atmosphere of this special place. We were even treated to some beautiful singing of the call to prayer by Hussain, whose voice echoed perfectly in the natural acoustics of the quarry.

After lunch, it was over to Coniston itself for a gorge scramble in Church Beck. We kitted the lads out in wetsuits and buoyancy aids and headed into the gorge to climb some waterfalls and jump into some pools. The water felt a little cooler than usual, so we were glad of our wetsuits, but this didn’t hamper any spirits and it’s fair to say that everyone had a great time – including me!

Thanks guys for a great day, with a special thanks to Hussain for his singing! We hope to see you again soon.
