Multi-activity day: Hodge Close with the Conroy-Purbricks & Church Beck with Faye & Mark

On Tuesday we were joined by the Conroy-Purbrick Wiltshire for a morning of abseiling at Hodge Close quarry. The main abseil line was busy when we arrived, so we headed over to the far side of the quarry to get on an alternative line. Although the rock was pretty wet from all the rain on Sunday and Monday, Ed, his 2 sons and daughter all managed to find the confidence to lean back over the edge and abseil down to the quarry floor.

After a while, the main abseil became free, so we quickly moved the ropes so the guys could have a go on this vertical wall of slate. Again, everyone managed a successful descent, with the amazing backdrop of Hodge Close’s rock architecture to take their minds off the height!

Well done to you all and great to meet you – we hope to see you again soon.

With Sunday nights torrential downpour, we had postponed Monday’s trip into Church Beck with Faye and Mark, due to a very real risk of the water levels being too high to make things safe. Instead, we met the couple on Tuesday afternoon and this time the sun had come out.

We headed into Church Beck for some gorge scrambling – aka splashing around, climbing waterfalls, wrestling in pools, ducking under and climbing over obstacles, traversing walls and jumping into deep pools! It’s fair to say that we all got really wet and had an amazing time and I’m sure that we’ll see Faye and Mark again in the future for round 2.

Thanks all for a great day,

Si
