Mountain skills course: navigation & scrambling

This week, Jim and Ruth joined us for a bespoke 2-day mountain skills course. Jim and Ruth were keen to assess themselves against the level required to join an ML training course, as well as to learn some new skills that would help them to explore the mountains more safely.

On day one, we met Jim and Ruth in Coniston and after a briefing and a discussion about kit and weather forecasting, we headed into the very wet Coniston fells to look at navigation.

Day two was fortunately a lot drier and we met Jim and Ruth over in Langdale for a day looking at scrambling skills on Tarn Crag, including some basic ropework that they could use when scrambling and some emergency skills to ensure that they could get out of any difficulty safely.

A great couple of days in really good company. Jim and Ruth went away a lot wiser and ready to consolidate their skills and take on their next challenges.
