The 160ft abseil at Cathedral

Do you want to test your nerve by trying abseiling down a vertical wall? We’ll provide all the safety gear and coaching that you need and will pick a venue of a height that suits your ambitions, or your bottle! If you’re really psyched, then why not try abseiling down our 160ft wall of vertical slate at Cathedral Quarry in Little Langdale!

Abseiling is great fun for groups and is also a really good way of tiring out the kids. It works really well as a half-day session, enabling you to create your perfect multi-activity day by marrying this activity up with half a day of rock climbingscramblinggorge scrambling (aka. ghyll scrambling) or canyoning.

Abseiling is also perfect for Hen and Stag parties and is brilliant as part of a team building day of Lake District activities for corporate clients.

If you’re wondering what it is like to spend the day abseiling with us, then check out this great write up by one of our clients who joined us recently for a day of Lake District activities >> http://heelwalker1.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/rocks-ropes-conquering-fear-with.html

Abseiling days can also be run from venues in the Peak District, Wales (Snowdonia) or Scotland.

The Hodge Close abseil

Ages and abilities: We have abseils that cater for all ages and abilities, from shorter more friendly walls to drops that will definitely make your legs shake! The youngest person to abseil with us so far was 5 – the oldest well into their 70s.

Group sizes and ratios: Generally, we run private, bespoke Lake District activities for just you and your party. At busy times you might be part of a larger group. If you want a private session, then just let us know (there is no extra cost). We put your safety first so the maximum instructor:client ratio that we will work to is 1:8 – if your party is bigger than 8 people then there will be more than one instructor.

Venue: We will choose a venue that suits your aspirations and minimises the travelling that you need to do. In the Lake District we have abseil venues in areas like  Coniston and Langdale, as well as further north in the Keswick and Borrowdale areas. We can also run sessions in the Peak District, in Snowdonia and in Scotland too.

Kit:  We will share a kit list with you when you book, but all you really need are warm and waterproof ‘outdoor’ clothes and footwear. We will provide all safety equipment such as harnesses and helmets, plus buoyancy aids and wetsuits if you are joining us gorge scrambling or canyoning. All our kit is in excellent condition and is replaced regularly.

Times: ½ a day runs from 9.30am to 12.30pm or from 2pm to 5pm. A full day runs from 9.30am to 5pm, with a break for some lunch, or to move to the next activity. We believe in bespoke, tailored sessions though so we will always do our best to work around your other commitments and time constraints.
