A typical multi-pitch climbing stance

Are you a single-pitch climber who is ready for the adventure of long multi-pitch mountain routes? You’ve got the base skill-set but multi-pitch climbing is a different ballgame, with complex route finding, tricky stance management issues and difficult descents to deal with.

Our Into to Multi-Pitch Climbing course will teach you the skills that you need to head onto big routes in the high mountains safely and efficiently.

You will learn skills in the following areas and more:

  • Route finding in complex terrain
  • Choosing an appropriate rack for big routes and decide what gear you need to take
  • Deciding on appropriate pitch lengths and stances to ensure good communication with your second
  • Building multi-pitch belays with anchors in reach and out of reach
  • Bringing up your second safely
  • Stance management: deal with rope-faff on small stances – no tangles and twists!
  • Managing hanging belays
  • Descending safely – abseiling skills for the beginner through to experienced
  • Dealing with basic rescues

As well as learning the technical skills you will get to climb on some classic multi-pitch lines under the watchful eye of our instructors.

Our courses can be run from pretty much anywhere in the mountains of the Lake District, Wales or Scotland.
