At Lakeland Ascents, we deliver professional rock climbing courses for all levels of climber. We run bespoke courses tailored to you as as climber and as a result can focus on your ambitions and the skills that you want to develop, as opposed to a generic syllabus.

Rock climbing with Lakeland Ascents

Guided rock climbing – let us take you climbing! Time to get on that Classic Rock, Hard Rock or Extreme Rock route that you’ve been dreaming of. From big routes in the high mountains, to valley crags in the Lake District and the complete contrast of the sea cliffs of Gogarth, our instructors will guide you while you experience an unforgettable day on the rock.

Intro to outdoor rock climbing – take your first steps as an outdoor rock climber. Experience climbing on different rock types. Learn about gear, how to read routes, anchor selection and rigging. Find out how to abseil, how to interpret guidebooks and gradings. Discover the difference between Diff and HVS and leave as a climber with all the skills needed to competently second trad rock climbs.

Lead climbing course – get on the sharp end and learn the skills needed to lead trad rock climbs safely. Learn about gear placement, route choice, rigging belays and managing rope systems, safe retreat, abseiling and more. Leave ready to start logging those onsights!

Multi-pitch climbing skills – learn how to climb big routes quickly and effectively. Get the skills you need to read routes, manage tricky belay stances tangle free and use efficient rope systems. Then in descent, learn how to carry out safe multi-pitch abseil retreats.

Self rescue for climbers – the toolkit every climber should have. Learn how to problem solve and self rescue when the unthinkable happens. We’ll cover everything from how to deal with a damaged rope to complex rescues of a ‘worst-case-scenario’ unconscious climber.
