Are you an indoor climber looking to make the transition to climbing outdoors? Do you need help learning the basic skills needed to start rock climbing outside? Join our experienced professional instructors on our Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing course, and let us introduce you to the delights of rock climbing in the UK mountains.
Above all, we believe in tailored and bespoke courses for each individual climber. This means we can focus 100% on your ambitions, rapidly develop your skills, and accelerate your climbing career. But most importantly, we’ll be heading out and doing loads and loads of climbing!
The following topics are typically covered on our Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing courses, but as our courses are unique to you, the actual course content will vary to ensure that you meet your goals.
You will:
- Gain experience on a variety of different types of climbs, rock types, and grades
- Get coaching on different techniques, including jamming, laybacks, rock-overs, and more
- Learn about trad rock climbing gear; such as hexes, wires, nuts, and cams. Learn when to use what and why.
- Find out about trad grades and route types, and experience the difference between VDiff and HVS
- Receive instruction in anchor selection and rigging, and learn how to rig your own ‘top-rope’
- Learn how to abseil safely
- Learn about guidebook interpretation, choosing your line, and reading the route
Our 2-day course covers as much as possible within the given time frame (and we do cram it in!). However, if you’re looking to significantly develop your skills, we highly recommend our 4-day comprehensive course, which gives us ample time to move you up the grades and take your climbing to the next level.

Price and Dates: Our prices are shown in the table below, and we offer private courses that can be scheduled at a time that suits you. If you are an individual and would like to join a group course, let us know, as we may be able to match you with other like-minded climbers.

Ages and Abilities: We welcome climbers of all ages and abilities, from beginners to those looking to improve their lead grade.
Group Sizes and Ratios: We prioritise your safety and will therefore maintain a maximum instructor-to-client ratio of 1:4. If your party consists of more than two people, we will provide additional instructors.
Venue: We will select a venue that suits your aspirations and minimises travel time. We have numerous options in the Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland.
Equipment: We will share a comprehensive kit list with you when you book, but all you really need are warm and waterproof outdoor clothing and footwear. You may borrow harnesses, helmets, and rock gear from us, but we recommend using your own equipment so that you can become familiar with it. We recommend bringing rock shoes to get the most out of your course, and we will provide all ropes.
Times: Our courses usually start at approximately 9:15 a.m. and conclude by around 4:30 p.m. We strive to create customised, personalised courses that can accommodate your other commitments and scheduling constraints.
