Intro to outdoor rock climbing

20171012 PA120002 304x228 Intro to outdoor rock climbing

Enjoying the classic ‘Oberon’ – a great ‘intro to rock’ climb.

Are you an indoor climber wanting to make the transition to climbing outdoors? Do you need a helping hand to learn the basic skills needed to start rock climbing outside? Spend 2 or more days with our experienced instructors on our Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing course. Let us introduce you to the delights of rock climbing in the mountains of the UK.

Above all, we believe strongly in tailored and bespoke courses for you as a climber. As a result this means that we can focus 100% on your ambitions, rapidly develop your skills and accelerate your climbing career.

Most importantly, we’ll be heading out and doing loads and loads of climbing! However an idea of the areas that we’d cover at this level of course follows – in reality though we’d also cover loads more!

  • Gain experience on a variety of different types of climbs, rock types and grades
  • Get coaching on different techniques: jamming, laybacks, rock-overs and more
  • Learn about trad rock climbing gear: hexes, wires, nuts, cams? Learn when to use what and why.
  • Find out about trad grades and route types: experience the difference between VDiff and HVS
  • Receive instruction in anchor selection and rigging: learn how to rig your own ‘top-rope’
  • Learn how to abseil safely
  • Learn about guidebook interpretation: choosing your line and reading the route.

An introduction to outdoor climbing at Tremadog

On a 2 day course covers as much as time allows (and we do cram it in!). To really develop your skills, add more days to give us loads of scope for moving you on significantly as a climber.

This Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing course runs from the Lake District and Snowdonia. For courses in Scotland, please see Highland Ascents.

Finally, we also offer a variety of other rock climbing courses, these are:

Click here to make a booking or to find out more. You can also contact us by telephone on 07702 942980.

Ages and abilities: We can cater for all ages and abilities, from the new climber to those wanting to push their lead grade.

Group sizes and ratios: Because we put your safety first the maximum instructor:client ratio that we will work to is 1:2 – as a result, if your party is bigger than 2 people then there will be more than one instructor.

Venue: We will choose a venue that suits your aspirations and minimises the travelling that you need to do. We are certainly spoilt for choice in the Lakes, Snowdonia and in Scotland too.

Kit: We will share a kit list with you when you book, but all you really need are warm and waterproof ‘outdoor’ clothes and footwear. You can borrow harnesses, helmets and rock gear from us, but we’d advise that you use your own kit if you have it so that you can get used to using it. We advise you bring rock shoes to get the most out of your course. We will provide all ropes.

Times: Generally we would look to meet at around 09.15 and be finished by around 16.30. However, because we believe in bespoke, tailored days we will always do our best to work around your other commitments and time constraints.
