Learning to lead on Milestone Buttress

Are you ready to take the next step in your climbing journey and experience the thrill of leading traditional rock climbs? Join our experienced professional instructors for a 4-day lead climbing course.

During the course, we will guide you through the nuances of different types of rock protection, teaching you “how and where” to place wires, nuts, Friends, draws, and hexes until it becomes second nature. We will then support you as you lead your first trad rock climbs, helping you learn how to make the most of the natural protection that the rock offers.

Not only will you learn the technical skills required for lead climbing, but our courses also cover route choice, rock climbing grades, guidebook interpretation, and venue selection. We’ll also introduce you to our top-tip psychological techniques to help you overcome the mental challenges of leading.

We understand that every climber is different and has unique goals. That’s why all of our courses are bespoke, personalised and tailored to your needs. This allows us to develop your skills quickly, which in turn, means you can achieve your climbing goals faster.

Courses run from the Lake District & Snowdonia. For courses in Scotland, please see Highland Ascents.

In addition, we also offer a variety of other rock climbing courses, these are:

Ages and Abilities: We can accommodate climbers of all ages and abilities, however you should already have experience of rock climbing (indoors is fine). Ideally you will have already seconded several trad rock climbs.

Group Sizes and Ratios: Safety is our top priority, so we work to a maximum instructor-to-client ratio of 1:2. If your party has more than 2 people, more than one instructor will be present.

Venue: We will choose a venue that matches your aspirations and minimises your travel requirements. We have plenty of options in the Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland.

Kit: When you book, we will share a kit list with you. However, all you need are warm and waterproof ‘outdoor’ clothing and footwear. If needed, we will lend you harnesses, helmets, and rock gear. We recommend using your own gear if you have it, so you can get accustomed to it under expert instruction. We will provide all the ropes.
