RCI Refresher (Rock Climbing Instructor award)
Are you preparing for your Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI) assessment and feel that you would benefit from a condensed RCI refresher course? Or are you a RCI holder who has not used the award for some time and would like to refresh your skills? If so, join our professional instructors for a tailored RCI Refresher.
Our private 1:1 courses mean that we can focus on the areas of the syllabus that you feel you need help with, and spend less time on the areas where you’re already proficient. We’ll provide honest feedback on your current skill level, and leave you with an action plan to focus your training in the lead up to your assessment. We find this approach to be much more effective than running ‘open’ courses that cater to a large group of clients with varying needs.
Common areas where RCI candidates tend to struggle are rescue scenarios and general crag safety, but we can cover all the following areas and more:
- Group management and communication
- Crag safety
- Selecting efficient and safe anchors at the top of the crag
- Building appropriate belays for top & bottom-rope climbing
- Knots! What, where & when?!
- Personal abseiling and abseiling with clients
- Dealing with the unexpected – including rescues, from simple solutions to complex abseil ‘pick-ups’
- Personal climbing techniques and strategy
- Using climbing walls with groups
- Access, conservation and the environment
- Ethics and best practice
We can run this course in the Lake District, Snowdonia, or Scotland.
