24 Peaks Challenge

20131125 D7K3171 304x183 24 Peaks Challenge

Bowfell from Langdale – the end of day 1

Have you done the National 3 Peak Challenge and found it easy (!) or would you like to really test yourself, without having to even leave the Lake District? This is the challenge for you!

Both of these 24 Peaks Challenges are far harder than the 3 Peak Challenge or even their close relative, the 10 Peak Challenge. These are demanding walks, taking in 24 Lake District peaks over significant mileage and practically climbing the height of Mont Blanc in just 24 hours of walking time.

We offer two versions of the 24 Peaks Challenge. Both tick off 24 serious Lake District peaks in the same 24 hour target time and both are seriously tough challenges that travel through the major ranges of the Lakeland fells.

Walkers on Gable 304x201 24 Peaks Challenge

Wasdale from Scafell Pike

  • 24 Peaks Challenge (Linear Route) – the original line. A great route for the purist that takes in the Scafell Range on day 1 and the Helvellyn Range on day 2. You’ll walk 35 miles with 13,000ft of ascent (56km and ~4,000m of ascent) in just 24 hours on your feet. Due to the linear nature of this route (i.e. each day starts and ends in different places) you will need a dedicated driver who doesn’t go on the hill or we can arrange transport logistics for you. This does increase costs slightly but it is worthwhile as it allows you to concentrate on the important bit: the walking!
  • 24 Peaks Challenge (Circular Route) – just as hard as the Linear Route and exclusive to Lakeland Ascents; slightly different fells climbed but still visiting the major peaks of the Scafell Range on day 1 and Helvellyn Range on day 2, including Scafell Pike and Helvellyn themselves. You’ll walk 29.5 miles with 11,640ft of ascent (47.5km and ~3,548m of ascent) also in just 24 hours on your feet. This option is becoming more and more popular due to groups wanting to simplify logistics and keep their costs down by returning to their own cars at the end of each day and avoiding having to pay extra for transport, plus the lower guiding fee.
