Helvellyn Guided Walks

Standing at 950m Helvellyn is one of most famous and highest mountains in the Lake District. It’s one of only 4 3,000ft+ summits in England and offers walkers spectacular views and, thanks to Striding Edge, some of the best ridge walking in Britain. Helvellyn’s flat summit offers far reaching views in every direction.

With Lakeland Ascents you can experience the thrill of climbing Helvellyn in confidence that you’re walking with an experienced Mountaineering Instructor who will not only guide you, but will teach you mountain skills and navigation skills along the way, if you’re interested in learning.

We’d only recommend taking on Helvellyn if you already have a good level of fitness and are comfortable walking for 6-7 hours on uneven terrain, including steep ascents.

A typical day and walking route up Helvellyn:

The Helvellyn Edges – Striding Edge & Swirral Edge horseshoe

Starting in Glenridding, this is THE way to climb Helvellyn. Our Mountaineering Instructors will keep you safe on the knife edge of Striding Edge and Swirral Edge as we climb the mighty Helvellyn. A good head for heights is needed here as both of these edges have big exposure.

Helvellyn via the East Ridge of Nethermost Pike

This is a great alternative to Striding Edge and is always really quiet. Nethermost Cove is a really amazing place to be and we hardly see any people until we reach the summit of Helvellyn. Return via Striding Edge or Swirral Edge, or retrace your steps to Dollywaggon Pike.

At Lakeland Accents we offer private guiding across the Lake District. We can also provide navigation training so you can take on other challenging Lake District Walks on your own. Should you be looking for something a little more challenging then make sure you check out our other Lake District Challenges.
